HYDROLOGIC CYCLE
Distillation replicates the Hydrologic Cycle, nature's own way of purifying water. In the hydrologic cycle, water streams, rivers and lakes are heated by the sun and water vapor is formed. The vapor rises into the atmosphere forming clouds, leaving behind most of the contaminants it may have contained. Eventually the vapor condenses and returns to the earth as purified rain or snow. The problem is that as soon as the water hits the ground it begins to get contaminated all over again.
HOW IT WORKS
a distiller uses a heater to boil the water and produce water vapor. The vapor rises, leaving the contaminants behind. The purified vapor enters a condenser where it is converted back to its liquid state...purified water. The important difference is that in a distiller the purified water is collected in a storage tank or bottle so it's ready for cooking or drinking.
OTHER OPTIONS
Other types of water treatment such as filters and reverse osmosis (RO) can lose their effectiveness over time. Distillers produce a consistent supply of healthy, delicious water. And distillation removes a very wide spectrum of contaminants.
